Apaches Bring the Heat, 38-7

(Arcadia) – Arcadia came out firing all cylinders in the first quarter and never let up in a 38-7 blasting of Burbank Friday night in Pacific League action.

Taylor Lagace punched it in from four yards out to give Arcadia a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. On Burbank’s ensuing possession a bad snap out of the endzone resulted in an Apache safety.

The Apaches drove the ball down the field behind the hard running of Jake Medel. Myles Carr capped the march with a four yard pass to Robbie Haines to make it 16-0

After the Arcadia defense forced a three an out, the Apaches were on the move again.

Carr, having a world of time, surveyed the field before finding Alex McElwee for a 14-yard touchdown pass for a 23-0 advantage.

Burbank’s struggles continued when on the next possession the snap went through the punter’s hands for another safety and it was 25-0 at the end of one.

Carr and Lagace hooked up for a 58-yard catch and run in the second quarter. Lagace turned the swing pass into a touchdown and it was 32-0 at the break.

Burbank finally got on the board on a second half touchdown pass but Zan Williams, a junior, returned the ensuing kick-off 80-yards for a touchdown.

Carr finished 13 of 21 for 169 and three touchdowns. Medel proved his medal with 164 yards on 22 carries.

Apache defensive lineman Clarence Irvin was a monster all night. He had nine tackles, two assists, two tackles for loss and one sack.

The Apaches paid tribute to Chris Handy before the game. Handy, a standout running back who played for Arcadia ten years ago, passed away last month. Friends and family gathered before the game to honor the former Apache.

“I’m sure Chris was looking down tonight and was proud of the way the Apaches played. It is the way Chris would have played,” said Arcadia Coach Jon Dimalante.
