Can anybody beat Mike Maggiore's Bulldogs?
After watching West Covina crush Los Altos last night I’m wondering who can beat them? I’m thinking nobody. The Bulldogs have lost once…to Loyola…the same Loyola team that beat Bishop Amat 14-3 last night. And Chris Solomon didn’t play.
West Covina beat the best team in the Mid-Valley Division in Zero Week. The Bulldogs also beat South Hills and Glendora in the non league schedule. Since Hacienda League play started they have scored at least 35 points in every game and racked up over 40 against Los Altos and Walnut. They beat last year’s opponent in the CIF Finals , Bonita, 38-14.
They took home the trophy last year and they are better this year. Who’s going to knock them off? I mean seriously who? Rowland? No. Diamond Ranch? Please. DR lost to Los Altos who West Covina took apart Friday night. That takes care of the regular season schedule.
Who can handle them in the Southeast? The Del Rio doesn’t have anybody who can match up and the Suburban might be the weak link in the Division. We’ve already seen what the Dogs have done to the Hacienda so that leaves the Pacific.
Arcadia might have a chance but do you really think that front line could shut down Chris Solomon? Aaron Salgado? Jimmy Frazier? Burroughs? C’mon, unless Zander Anding gets healthy the Indians are in trouble. Muir lost to Crescenta Valley and got worked by Arcadia. How do you think they would stand up to West Co?
Okay we’ve heard about Solomon and Salgado and Frazier. But have you heard about Josh Best. He’s the sophomore that scored two touchdowns last night. West Covina is averaging 256 rushing yards per game! You think you can control the clock? No, you don’t understand. WC controls the clock.
“It’s really no secret what we do,” said West Covina Coach Mike Maggiore after the win over Los Altos. “We like to pound the ball.”
And yet nobody can stop them.
And just when you think you can contain the run, Chris Caballero might drop back and fire a bomb to Lonzell Barnett. Have you seen Barnett? Have you seen Barnett on defense?
Speaking of defense who’s going to block Justin Meaders coming off the edge. Who’s going to take care of linebacker Bradley Ojala? Who’s stopping Gus Vilchis?
Who’s going to beat West Covina? Really, I want to know. If you can think of somebody…anybody…clue me in, because I have no idea.
