Affliction Entertainment Vice President Tom Atencio confirmed Wednesday that Josh Barnett has been pulled from an August 1 matchup against Fedor Emelianenko.
Affliction is looking for a replacement to face the heavyweight king at Affliction “Trilogy” August 1st.
Multiple sources say that the California State Athletic Commission will not license Barnett after a positive test result.
Barnett said he had not been notified of any issues with his eligibility as of Tuesday evening. “I took my test three weeks ago. I would have thought I would have heard something by now,” Barnett said.
Middleweight Vitor Belfort has agreed in principle to face the world’s No. 1 heavyweight on in less then two weeks, Belfort was getting ready for his bout with Jorge Santiago that night.
Another possible replacement is former pro wrestler and undeafted MMA rising heavyweight Bobby Lashley.
