Mid-Valley Division Top 16: Playoff Edition

Clayton Taggart (66), Henry Crane (63) and the Wildcats are ready for the playoffs

It’s not exactly the way CIF sees it but here’s how we broke down the 16 playoff teams. Nothing changed in the top four as they all won. Azusa jumped to number five with a big win over previously undefeated La Puente. Pomona fell to San Dimas to take third in the Valle Vista and ten in the rankings. El Monte lost to Arroyo to take second in MVL. South El Monte salvaged a playoff berth with a win over Rosemead. Where’s South Pasadena?

1. Covina (9-1) – The number one seed as it should be.

2. San Dimas (8-2) – Saints kick it off with San Marino.

3. Monrovia (7-3) – Cats get the four seed and a date with Pomona.

4. Arroyo (9-1) – Knights have no complaints; a number two and Sierra Vista.

5. Azusa (7-3) – Aztecs leave no doubts in Montview.

6. La Puente (9-1) – Warriors try to avoid Azusa hangover.

10. Pomona (6-4) – Third place in a tough league.

11. El Monte (7-3) – Brandon Martinez is healthy and ready to go.

12. San Gabriel (6-4) – Matadors complete perfect Almont run.

13. Alhambra (8-2) – Nice bounce back win for Moors over BG; LP next.

14. San Marino (7-3) – Solid year for first year Coach Mike Hobbie and Titans.
