Off The Cuff: August 2, 2009

After a much deserved break I return to give you my usual opinions.

I give you sad news to begin this wonderful column.

The Arena Football League as we have come to know and love is done. It is folding after taking the 2009 season off to re-structure.

This news came with the a status update on Facebook from a former player and the last Los Angeles Avengers head coach Pat O’Hara.

O’Hara had a incredible career in the AFL and is a former starting quarterback at USC.

I must confess, Joe Torosian is a warrior, a true professional. While I was on vacation, I decided not to write any columns. Torosian will be keeping us updated with his Fanview Lite from across this great country of ours.

It is easy to make fun of Joe, but if your wondering why I didn’t write about my wonderful to trip to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is because I took the easy way out and got lazy.

Speaking of my vacation in Indianapolis and Chicago. It was quite enjoyable.

The coolest image scene was when I went through Lafayette, In. As I was passing through the heart of University of Purdue country, I saw a barn painted with the Boilermaker.

Truly a remarkable site, you won’t see anyone in Los Angeles painting their home in USC or UCLA colors or logos.

Isn’t it amazing, that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are only one game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in baseball.

Of course, it really doesn’t matter that the Angels are catching the Dodgers for the best record. It only matters that they have now caught the New York Yankees for the best record in the American League. With the victory in the All-Star Game this year, the Junior Circuit has already clinched the home field advantage through out the World Series.

How the Angels are doing this is shocking as they have Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero on the bench with a variety of injuries.

I don’t know how close the Angels were to getting Roy Halladay, but it would have been real neat to see him in a Angels uniform.
