Awards season continues.

Coach Michael McKay’s track record is a proven one. From success as a quarterback at Culver City and Tulane University to serving alongside Jerry Chou in the standout CIF championship days at Eagle Rock, McKay has produced.

Arriving at Pasadena in 2011 (Temple City 2009, Montebello 2010) his presence offensively was immediately felt. Reunited with the talented Brandon Cox the Bulldogs advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2007.

Bulldog point totals nearly doubled. This fall PHS averaged 28 points per game, scoring 340 total. In 2010 the average was at 17, and the total was 175.

Key was the development of Cox from an athletic quarterback to an extremely dangerous one. The junior southpaw thrived in McKay’s offensive scheme firing 29 touchdown passes and rushing for 10 more (the PHS stats on MaxPreps are incomplete). Plus nearly three thousand yards passing and close to 700 yards rushing.

The offensive game plan also led to a monster season for wide receiver Riian Simpson.

For this McKay is the Mid Valley Sports “Offensive Assistant of the Year” in 2011.
