CV Buries Colton, Advances to Third Round

(La Crescenta)- Upset in the first round last year by Quartz Hill, Crescenta Valley (24-4) acquired redemption with a 74-56 victory over Colton on Friday night in the second round of CIF play after receiving a bye in the first.

The Falcons took a 6-2 lead before Colton scored 5 points to take its only advantage of the night, 7-6. CV regained the lead and finished the first quarter up 17-11.

Cole Currie added to the Falcons lead by shooting  3 of 6 from 3 point range for 9 points and Davis Dragovich added 8 points including 4-4 from the free throw line. CV ended the first half up 33-22.

Colton came out after halftime as the more aggressive team and cut the deficit to two, 36-34, before CV’s coach Shawn Zagarian called timeout midway through the 3rd quarter. The Falcons proceeded to finish the quarter on a 17-0 run with a 53-34 lead. Zargarian was able to get everyone in the game as 10 Falcons scored led by Currie with 21 and Dragovich with 17.

Colton was led by Richie Medina and Richie Ragoo with 14 and 13 respectively.

Crescenta Valley’s third round game will be at Downey against Warren High School next Tuesday, February 21st, 7:00 PM.
