(San Dimas) – La Canada’s Aubri Thompson came up with four runs batted in during back-to-back innings to help the Spartans explode for seven runs during the second and third inning to help dispatch Alta Loma 10-0 in a time shortened victory during the San Dimas Tournament.

Thompson went 1-for-2 with a single but a clutch hit in the third inning and a hard grounder in the second help lead to four La Canada runs.

The Spartan bats came alive in the second and third innings as they sent 15 of 18 batters to the plate. Annie Monroe and Selina Mohr started the second with back-to-back singles and advanced on a wild-pitch to set up Thompson’s hard grounder that allowed both Monroe and Mohr to score.

With one out, Lauren Cox helped herself with a fly ball to center that was misplayed that allowed her to get to second. Brenna Gay singled and advanced to third on a fielder error that allowed Olivia Lam to score in place of Cox for the third run. Jessica Ogden the followed with a single that scored Gay.

While La Canada easily batted, the Braves were stymied by Cox who face seventeen batters and only allowed one-hit in the shutout. Cox finished the night striking out 12 Alta Loma batters.

As Cox mowed downed the Braves, the Spartans continued its hot hitting in the third innings as Alyssa Stolmack and Monroe each singled to start the top half of the inning. After a Mohr sacrifice bunt, Thompson laced a single that plated Stolmack and Monroe. After Gay reached on an error, Ogden singled to score Thompson for the final run of the inning.

The only threat even posed to Cox came in the bottom of the third inning as Alta Loma’s Olivia Salomon tripled with one out. Emily Wilcox worked her way on with a walk to give the Braves runners at the corners. A grounder by Kristina Seymour couldn’t advance Saloman, Cox was able to strike out the final batter of the inning to stop the threat.
