Monrovia Sets Sights on Three

Monrovia quarterback Blake Heyworth

(Monrovia) – For years Monrovia was the team without a CIF title. Now the Wildcats are setting their sights on a third championship in three years. CIF has made it a little more difficult to for the Cats to accomplish that goal by moving the Alpha League into the Mid- Valley Division. In case you’re not aware the Alpha features such powerhouses as Sierra Canyon and Paraclete.

M-Town’s Mason Bryant has several offers

On paper, Monrovia seems more than capable of a three-peat. When you have a roster loaded with players such as George Frazier, Anthony Craft, Blake Heyworth, Brett Walsh, Mason Bryant, Isaac Miravet…etc. returning it’s tough to see them falling short. Nobody will touch them in the Rio Hondo and just like last year, some predict they will run the regular season table.

Going through the drills

The Wildcats lost three games in 2011 (Arcadia, San Dimas, South Hills) before reeling off ten straight to win the title. This year’s non league schedule could be a test as well. Monrovia has Ayala, Arcadia, San Dimas, South Hills and St. Francis. Only Arcadia and South Hills are at home.

We’ll have more later. Here’s a few shots.

Chino hills: From someone watching talent from all local schools monrovia does have the D1 prospects. Right now as it looks CH has 1 legitimate D1 player this year ” Jack Austin” not too impressed with Simko yes the kid has some size and but doesnt move very well, but we shall see.

Monrovia showed some heart last night. Honestly Monrovia is really good. They are going through some growing Pains. Last week when they imploded againgst San Dimas, it was due to the youth in the secondary. They got baptized in the 4th in that game. These SO. DBs were stars on the Freshman team, but with only 12 games played in their high school career, things are different on Var. San Dimas, found out where the sophmore DB’s were, and the went after them. South Hills, tried to duplicate that effort, but this week the youngsters held on. Each week they will get better. By the end of the year, they won’t be giving up games. Last night I saw beat up, tired south hills team. That West Co and Tesoro Game took a toll on them. South hills did not have any subs. I saw 9 out of 11 players going 3 ways. Offense, Defense, and special teams. A SHS player threw up in the game on the field. Having no depth, will cost them league.

Would’ve made more sense to move Monrovia out of the RHL and into a tougher league and division but oh well.

Correct about Monrovia having all of the pieces in place to win another title. Correct too, are you, (as Yoda might say), that those title hopes will go directly through the Alpha. Sierra Canyon is nothing less than a slightly smaller Oaks Christian and Clete will always be tough.

And Margaret Neill is the toughest AD in the Section.
