(Pomona) – Alan Salguero led the way for the Panthers by scoring two of Diamond Ranch’s three touchdowns in their 22-14 victory over Chino friday night.
Chino, with two great defensive stops had opportunities to score as time winded down and go for the potential tie. Then a roughing the kicker penalty after the snap was muffed, recovered, and poorly kicked gave Diamond Ranch a fresh set of downs and ended the Cowboys chance with under two minutes to play.
Chino managed to cut the lead to 22-14 after converting an 8-play drive into points when J.C Carradine sliced in the endzone from one yard out and tacking on a 2-point
Salguero scored the first points for his team when piercing the end zone on a 3-yard run with 6:12 remaining in the first quarter, making it 7-6 after Chino drew first blood. Salguero was a versatile option for the DR, also scoring using his arm on a 5-yard halfback pass to Marquise Wimberly for a score midway through the second, building their biggest lead of the night 22-6.
It was 22-14 at halftime and remained a defensive match till the final whistle blew.
DR Quarterback Xavier Beltran provided the highlight of the night with 10:35 in the second when he connected with wideout Marcus Briscoe on a 45-yard scoring bomb. Amazing part was that Beltran took a big hit and still managed to deliver a perfect strike, a late hit flag was thrown.
