(Sierra Madre)- La Salle Running back Isreal Lacy rushed for a team high 119 yards and one score as the Lancers cruised past visiting Temple City 27-0 Friday night at Kohorst field.
Newly appointed head coach Russell Gordon had his team fired up for the Week Zero match up against the Rams. From the start of the game La Salle was energetic, something that the Rams seemed to be lacking.
“Effort equals results,” said Gordon. “The kids are hungry. You go 1-9 last year and you don’t win a game the year before so they’ll have a chip on their shoulder and they know they are a good football team.
Offensively the Lancers had a total of 11 players touch the ball and according to Gordon, that was the game plan.
“Absolutely,” said Gordon. “We want defenses to guess what we are doing. Everyone is going to contribute. That’s just what we do.”
On the other side of the ball, the Lancers defense caused numerous problems for the Rams to move the ball.
Quarterback Anthony Valencia could orchestrate a series that could lead to points. The Lancer defense forced three interceptions and stuffed the running game.
TC did have opportunities to score or to get into the red zone, but the defense was too much for the Rams.
“My defensive coordinator William Shine runs that type of offense so he knew exactly what to do to shut it down. The kids came out and perfected his scheme.
The Rams look to forget their loss when they travel to El Monte to play the Arroyo Knights next week while La Salle looks to keep winning when they host the Glendale Dynamiters.
