The Tornadoes earned an easy victory over a Vikings team that fielded only 27 players after the program was revived with the hiring of head coach Johnny Lopez five weeks ago. Hoover scored on their first six possessions and had a 40-0 lead at halftime, necessitating the need for the running clock in the second half. Junior quarterback Rayjon Moore threw six passes for 32 yards and one interception in his debut as Viking quarterback.

Ayala 46, Diamond Bar 17

Senior running back Jordan Robinson rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs rolled over the Brahmas at Diamond Bar. Ayala scored four consecutive touchdowns, including two from Robinson, after Diamond Bar got on the board first with a 34-yard field goal from Ryan Belden. However, the Brahmas tried three onside kicks with resulted in short fields for the Bulldogs to score those four touchdowns.

Garey 21, Pomona 19

The inter-city rivalry between the Red Devils and the Vikings took a new twist as Garey ended an 11-game losing streak with an upset of the Red Devils. After trailing 6-0 at halftime, the Vikings came out in the second half and took the lead twice on two touchdowns, including a 30-yard interception return by LaMontre Jones in the third quarter. Garey ran out the clock after Donovan Davis ran a 60-yard pass from Johnny Lua into the end zone to cut the lead to 21-19 with less than four minutes left in the game.

Hacienda Heights Wilson 21, Bosco Tech 6

The Wildcats started the Nicholas Christos coaching era by scoring the first three touchdowns of the game and held the Tigers to a single score by Carlos Ramirez. The Wildcats equaled their total wins from last year with the victory.

Northview 33, Ontario 0

The Vikings opened their season on the road in the I.E., shutting out the Jaguars at Chaffey High. Javon Taylor rushed for only 58 yards but scored the game’s first touchdown. The vikings went into the half leading 26-0.
