Week Three Round Up: Northwest Division

Westminster 13, Bosco Tech 10

A 15-yard touchdown with 38 seconds left in the game gave the Lions (1-2, 0-0) the win as Henry Arellano made a diving catch to knock off the Tigers (0-4, 0-0) Friday night at Westminster High.

Arellano’s catch, his only of the night, completed the Lions’ 13-point second half surge after the Tigers went into halftime up 10-0 on quarterback Brady Martinez’ one-yard run and a 27-yard field goal by Adrian Basera.

 

La Puente 45, Wilson 29

The Warriors (2-1, 0-0) built a 38-0 halftime lead before surrendering three straight touchdowns to the Wildcats (1-3, 0-0) Friday night at Wilson High.

The Warriors took advantage of an interception and fumble recovery in their early scoring while quarterback Ivan Vasquez completed nine of 13 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran one in from a yard out with 2:50 left in the game to ice the victory.

 

Mira Costa 35, South 14

The Mustangs (2-1, 0-0) needed a half to figure out how to score on the Spartans (2-1, 0-0) but rolled to a win Friday night at South Torrance High.

Khalil McClain led the Mustangs with 111 yards on nine carries and scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, as the Mustangs scored four straight times in the period to take the victory. Raphael Lawson-Gayle had the other two touchdowns as part of his 88 yards in seven carries.

 

North 56, Bishop Montgomery 0

Five first-half touchdown passes from quarterback Jorge Hernandez helped the Saxons (3-1, 0-0) were more than enough to shut out the Bishops (3-1, 0-0) and end their three=game winning streak Friday night at Bishop Montgomery.

The Saxons scored seven offensive touchdowns and returned an interception for another score. They held a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and led 56-0 at halftime.

 

Sierra Vista 59, Keppel 0

The Aztecs (0-4, 0-0) were shut out for the third time this season as the Dons (2-1, 0-0) won their second consecutive game of the season.

The Aztecs have scored only one touchdown so far this season and have been outscored 145-8 in four games this season.

St. Margaret’s 35, Whittier Christian 7

Despite a 290-yard night in the air by Ryan Esslinger, the Heralds (2-2, 0-0) were crushed by the Tartans (3-0, 0-0) Friday night at St. Margaret’s.

The Tartans have outscored their opponents 103-21, limiting each team to a single touchdown. The Heralds’ lone score came from Cody Bronkar, who had nine catches for 79 yards in the loss.
