Montebello 34, Keppel 6
The Oilers (4-2, 1-0) opened play in the Almont League by conquering the Aztecs behind three touchdowns from running back Marcus Portillo Friday night at Keppel’s Aztec Stadium.
Portillo carried the ball a dozen times for 102 yards, while quarterback Matt Saenz threw 11 completions for 165 yareds and two second quarter touchdowns.
The Oilers scored four times in the second, taking a 28-6 lead into the half. Next week, the Oilers will host San Gabriel while the Aztecs will host the Moors at Aztecs Stadium.
RIO HONDO
San Marino 42, La Canada 17
The Titans (6-0, 1-0) overcame an early 7-0 deficit to the Spartans (1-5, 0-1) with three straight touchdowns as part of the Titans’ Rio Hondo League opener Friday night at La Canada.
Titan quarterback Matt Wofford scored three touchdowns in the game, including the Titans’ first two in the second quarter and one more in the third.
Next week, San Marino will host Blair while La Canada travels to Monrovia.
Temple City 48, Blair 0
The Rams (3-3, 1-0) extended their winning streak to three games as they handed the Vikings (0-6, 0-1) their fourth shout out of the season Friday night at Temple City.
The Rams scored six touchdowns in the first half, taking a 41-0 lead at halftime. The Vikings have now been outscored 306-28 in their six-game losing streak.
The Rams will head to South Pasadena to take on the Tigers, while the Vikings travel to San Marino for a match-up with the Titans.
VALLE VISTA
San Dimas 54, Nogales 14
The Saints (6-1, 3-0) maintained their hold on the top spot in the Valle Vista league as they rolled over the Nobles (1-5, 1-1) Friday night at Nogales High.
Running back Jake Payton erupted for four touchdowns and 217 yards as he put the Saints into the lead for good on his first three touchdowns, runs of 80, 40 and 62 yards each within a span of eight minutes. He also scored late in the third from six yards out.
Next week, the Saints take the bye week while the Nobles host Covina.
Wilson 13, Pomona 7
The Wildcats (2-5, 1-2) ended a five-game losing streak by knocking off the Red Devils (1-5, 0-2) Friday night at Pomona High.
The Red Devils overcame a 7-0 halftime deficit with a 96-yard touchdown pass to Terell Mosby from Manny Lua with 4:20 left in the game, tying the game at 7-7. However, the Wildcats took their next possession 80 yards over the next three minutes and took back the lead on Christopher Orsorio’s one-yard run with 1:30 left.
Pomona’s ensuing possession ended with two sacks of Lua by the Wildcat defense to preserve the win. Josh Logan led the Wildcats’ ground offense with 101 yards on 24 carries.
