Arcadia QB Garrett Tuck could make the difference in Friday's "Brawl for the Mall"

Good Afternoon!

Obligatory John Scanlan Question of the Day: Is Arizona’s Mark Reynolds back to back 200-plus strikeout seasons worth the 43 homers and 100 Rbis he produces…and why?

In regards to a comment on the blog about the Montview League being better than the Mission Valley…I believe the better argument would be is the Mission Valley better than the AFC West?

Foolishly I’ve been critical in the past of the Manning brothers, but I’m hard pressed to think of two better triggermen in the league right now than Peyton and Eli Manning. On Sunday and Monday night I found myself totally detached from the game and just enjoying the experience.

It was kind of like watching Forrest Elder play quarterback for Muir way back when or Marquis Winbush run the ball for South Hills.

On this date in 1994 Arcadia won “The Brawl for the Mall” with a 35-14 beat down of Temple City at North Field. The Apaches Jon Shepherd scored three touchdowns and rushed for 181-yards on 12-carries as the visitors blitzed to a 28-0 first half lead. The one positive for the Rams was the emergence of sophomore quarterback James Schneider, who entered the game in the first quarter and completed 11 of 22 passes for 146-yards. Schneider would remain the TC starter for the next three years.

The last time Duarte was shutout three times in a row was in 2002 when from week two thru week four Pasadena, Valley Christian, and La Puente dropped successive 53, 54, and 42 point bombs on them. It happened to Bob Rau’s team in 1989 when they were shutout by Bellflower, Keppel, and Arroyo weeks five thru seven.

And just for fun in 1986 Paul Cummins era as HC for the Falcons ended with back to back shutouts by Arroyo and Rosemead. The 1987 season under new HC Joe Ballard began with a 45-0 drubbing by Monrovia.

Yes, San Marino has dominated its all-time series with Hoover 15 wins to only three losses.

Note to D.R. Moreland: The three Hoover wins over the Titans led to losing seasons in 1972, 1981, and 1986.

Reminder to Temple City defenders you better hit Arcadia’s Garrett Tuck twice if you want to bring him down. He won’t quit.

El Monte faces Gladstone this week after beating the Gladiators 33-0 a year ago. G-Stone and EM have met 12 times, the Lions trail in the series seven wins to five.

Note to faithful Fanview Lite reader EMAlumni: Mountain View has only made four playoff appearances…and lost each of them. 1979: Royal Oak. 1987: El Centro Union (76-0). 1988: Cajon. 1997: Montebello.

Did you this Friday’s meeting between Mt. View and Bassett is the first ever between the schools?

Stay thirsty my friends…
