“Team…Team”

Kick it!

Oh, I’ve always been a Texas A&M fan….Haven’t you?

I’d have something to say about the Los Angeles Lakers coaching situation if I’d actually seen them play this year, but I haven’t.

Same can almost be said about USC.

Almost…

So maybe Trojan HC Lane Kiffin should make this decision: Keep his career, fire his DC (Dad, Monte Kiffin)…Or end his career and keep his DC (Dad, Monte Kiffin).

Note to Pat Haden: Last I checked Matt Koffler was still available.

You know 33 years ago the Lakers were forced into a coaching change and it led to a title…that was also the last time El Monte won a playoff game.

Until last Friday night…Not only was the Lions 44-43 victory over Montebello its first since 1979, it was the school’s first ever playoff win on its current campus. And only its second playoff win since 1946…(SAY WHAT!)…I said it was only their second playoff win since 1946.

Don’t write off Whittier Christian against Nordhoff just yet…Not predicting an upset, but it might not be the blowout most think.

Gladstone, as most know now, got its first playoff win since 1977 when they beat Workman 37-0 on November 18th. On November 26th they got Ganesha…

Since we’re talking history…Arroyo’s 42-14 win over Bell Gardens was its first road playoff victory since a 2005 thumping of Schurr in the first round.

For South El Monte Friday’s win at “The Swamp” over Covina not only redeemed its 2011 playoff loss to the Colts but it was the Southmen’s first post-season win since November 16, 2007. On that night quarterback Jose Garay threw for 357 yards and six touchdowns. Four of those scoring passes went to Tommy Cogburn (8-catches, 290 yards)…And by the way Jonathan Mendoza ran for 223 yards on 12 carries.

I love fantasy football…especially when I’m winning…You know what I mean? Like it’s better than losing!

Does anyone have a flat screen they can loan me for the rest of the NFL season…I destroyed mine on Sunday when the Rams were forced to settle for a 24-24 tie with the 49ers….First tie in the NFL since 2008…I can remember when I was a kid teams in the NFL would actually finish their seasons with 5-7-2 records.

Note to High School Newspapers: When your team is in the playoffs…that is a story you should cover. Just passing it on.

Speaking of which, glad to hear Temple City’s Chris Reed is doing well.

If you’re local on Friday night, go to Arroyo…Go see Peter Aholoka carry the ball, it may be worth your time.

Last Note South El Monte: In Friday’s win Javier Machuca (Machuca is the South El Monte word for: Fast.) caught six passes for 198 yards and two scores.

Who’s ready to drive up to Paraclete friday night?

Last Note Gladstone: Nothing but love for G-Stone, but they’re not getting by North Torrance.

Southmen One More Time: November 20, 2009 was the last time South El Monte played Monrovia…Wildcats won: 40-7 in first round of the playoffs.

Speaking of M-Town it has won nine consecutive post-season games and 14 of its last 16 in CIF play.

The Dude abides…
