Gomez, Knights, Finish off Panthers

Dominic Salas and the Panthers battled but came came up short against Arroyo

(Rosemead) – Arroyo trailed after each of the first three quarters but rallied in the fourth to beat Rosemead 53-45 Wednesday night in MVL action.

The Knights scored 24 points in the fourth quarter led by Primitvio Gomez who had 11 including seven from the free throw line. Edgar Lupercio hit a pair of big threes and had eight in the quarter and Cesar Berumen also knocked one down from long range. Arroyo was down 33-29 heading into the final frame before doubling up the Panthers 24-12.

Rosemead led 19-17 at the half. Ethan Chan and Steven San Miguel each nailed one from behind the arc in the second quarter and Everado Camacho scored five in the half. Dominic Salas hit a pair of buckets inside in the third quarter and Camacho added five more as the Panthers continued to keep Arroyo at bay.

But Rosemead cooled off in the fourth and Gomez and company warmed up and rallied for the win. Gomez hit seven of nine from the charity stripe in the fourth while the Panthers had just two free thows in the quarter.

Gomez led all scorers with 29 points and Lupercio added 13. Alex Arriaga had five down on the block. Camacho had 14 for the Panthers, Chan tossed in 10, and Salas and  Raymond Hoong added six.
