Ackerman Takes Over at Bell Gardens

Geoff Ackerman, seen coaching here for Schurr, is the new HC at Bell Gardens.

(Bell Gardens) – Geoff Ackerman, who was the defensive coordinator at Schurr last year, has been named the new head coach at Bell Gardens. Ackerman takes over for David Ramos, who departed after 13 years as HC earlier this month.

Ackerman also was on staff at ELAC two years ago when he helped lead the Huskies to a conference championship. Ackerman was brought back to Schurr by Marco Ramirez after his stint at ELAC. He had previously served under Ben Negrete at Schurr as well.

He becomes only the third head football coach at Bell Gardens since 1977. Dave Newell was HC for 23 seaons, 1977-1999, and went 189-77-3 with 11 league titles (Whitmont & Almont) and three finals appearances. David Ramos followed Newell in 2000 and compiled a 79-62-2 record in 13 seasons including nine playoff appearances.
