(Azusa) – B.J. Porter scored 18 points and Troy Leaf added 17 to lead Azusa Pacific to a 79-62 win over California Baptist Thursday night at the Felix Event Center.
The Cougars never trailed in the contest jumping out to an 11-4 lead early before extending it to 38-28 a halftime. APU broke it wide open in the second half, leading by 24 at one point before settling for the 17 point victory.
Christian Katuala, Jared Zoller and Bert Hall also finished in double figures for Azusa Pacific as all three scored 11 points.
The Cougars shot 48 percent from the field overall and outrebounded Cal Baptist 37-30. Katuala and Leaf each pulled down seven boards.
For the Baptists, Anthony Cosentino led the team with 17 points while Ivan Patterson had 12 and Kevin Crabb added 11.
Detroit Lion receiver Calvin Johnson was on hand to watch his cousin, Porter, in action.
The Cougars improved to 11-13 overall, 8-8 in the Pac West Conference, while the Lancers fell to 8-9 in the conference, 14-11 on the year.
