2. Metta World Peace will have knee surgery and is expected to be out six weeks.

3. Osi Umenyiora signs a two-year $8.5 million deal with the Falcons.

4. Shaka Smart spurns offers from UCLA and Minnesota to stay at Virginia Commonwealth.

5. “A lot of the proof is in the tape-that’s where they look first. But today was proof that I can still throw and make those passes down the field.” Matt Barkley after his pro day on Wednesday.

6. Monrovia offensive tackle Matt Norman turns 18 today.

7. The Baltimore Ravens sign former Raider safety Michael Huff to a three-year $6 million deal.

8. Mt. View’s John Correa is batting .528 with 10 RBIs in 12 games.

9. Southern California college basketball teams USC (men’s and women’s), UCLA and Cal State Northridge are all looking for head coaches.

10. On this day in 1977 Marquette beat North Carolina 67-59 to win the NCAA championship. The Golden Eagles, who were coached by Al McGuire, won their first ever title, and until this day it remains their only championship.
