1.) Former West Covina standout Chris Solomon turns 19 today.

2.) On this date in Dodger history in 1949 Gene Hermanski, Jackie Robinson and Gil Hodges convert a triple play in the third inning of a 5-2 victory over the Boston Braves.

3.) Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado

4.) Florida State’s E.J. Manuel is drafted 16th overall by the Buffalo Bills and is the only quarterback taken in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The last time only one quarterback was taken in the first round the Atlanta Falcons selected Michael Vick with the first overall pick in 2001.

5.) In 2012 the El Monte Lions baseball team finished 5-10 in league, 5-16 overall. So far in 2013 under first year HC Steven Urena EM has improved to 6-4 in league, 8-10 overall. The Lions have won four in a row and currently tied for second in the Mission Valley League.
