Jones’ Night Ends Early: Don’s Fall to BP, 53-27

(Baldwin Park)- Lee Jones’s performance lived up to expectation in the early minutes of the contest between the Sierra Vista Dons and the Baldwin Park Braves at Ted K. Gorrell Stadium. Unfortunately for the Dons, Jones’ evening ended early, and the Dons fell to the host Braves, 53-27 Friday night.

Jones ran for 117 yards and a touchdown before an ankle injury forced him from the game in the first quarter. Justin Torres filled in admirable for Jones, running for 307 yards and a score. However the host Braves proved to be too much for the Dons.

Baldwin Park quarterback Michael Moran threw three for three scores, and ran for two more, to lead the Braves to their second victory in as many weeks.

***BP quarterback Moran threw touchdown passes of 50, 51, and 81 yards.

***BP’s Jayson Miller returned the Braves first kickoff 73 yards for their first score of

the evening.

***Each team scored on its opening drive. The score was tied at 7-7 at the 11:01 mark

of the first quarter.

***The score at halftime was Baldwin Park 32 Sierra Vista 13

***Sierra Vista quarterback Steve Aguayo tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass, and scored on a 1-yard run.

***In addition to Moran and Miller, the Braves had touchdown runs from Justin Padilla and Hector Moran…the distances were 10 and 3 yards, respectively.

***Play was halted for almost twenty minute when Sierra Vista DB Ruben Rivas was knocked to the ground by Baldwin Park running back Christian Barazza on a block. Rivas was placed on a backboard and taken by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.

*** Baldwin Park is now 2-0, while Sierra Vista fell to 0-1.
