“Ooh, then we touched, then we sang

About the lovin’ things…”—Journey

Kick it!

Rio Hondo League appeal of move to Central Division: DENIED. (Vote: 7-0-2)

Prep League appeal of move to Northwest Division: DENIED. (Vote: 9-0-0)

So do we call this a victory for parity? I was told Aram of the Trib wrote that the RHL had nobody to blame but themselves by not giving Monrovia the boot…and he’s right. I think Alice Cooper, somewhere, is singing; “Welcome to my nightmare!”

For the next two years fourth and fifth place in the Rio Hondo might be preferable to third place and a date with (original: Chino Hills) Charter Oak.

(Thanks to everyone for keeping me humble 🙂 )

Note to Prep League: Guys, it’s time. Come on.

Not only because he’s on my fantasy baseball team, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to end my relationship with Matt Kemp.

Yet it seems like Kemp and the Dodgers are headed for a break up. This move to left field feels like some sort of marriage counseling compromise. While Kemp can play the corner outfield spot, I don’t believe his heart is in it. Sayonara.

The dollar doesn’t buy what it used to, but I can share what 2,269 rushing yards, 872 all purpose yards, and 46 touchdowns, over 14 games, does get you. A scholarship offer from the University of Washington. The Huskies offered Paraclete junior-to-be Melquise Stovall Tuesday morning.

Cunningham Playing! “The Jim Brownfield Memorial Golf Tournament” (Friday, May 30th at Brookside Park) still as openings for foursomes and individual golfers. Those interested can contact Tony Ortega at 562-458-8895. Sam Cunningham, NFF College Hall of Fame and former USC & NFL star will be playing in the tournament.

I won’t say who they were, but I had an early dinner with two and a half coaches last night. When Mid Valley Sports is no more I’ll name names and share what was said, but the clearest thing I can say is the belief that Maranatha, with Steve Bogan as HC, is on the cusp of something great.

Being a Christian school as opposed to Catholic, with an excellent location, in a city that most people want to live in with a lousy school district, and of course Bogan…were cited as the factors to keep a close watch on the Minutemen.

While I think there is a legality issue in regards to Donald Sterling being forced to sell the Clippers, the argument he’s making about being singled out is ridiculous. Sterling singled himself out with his actions.

Note to Bogan: I like Eli Snyder, I like Xavius Boone, I like Caleb Devine, but the biggest player on your offensive line (by a long shot is) is Josh Johnson at 245 pounds. You need some bubbas.

Really? Justin Sellers is back in the Majors?

APU has two Thursday night games scheduled for this coming season. The nationally televised opener against Grand Valley State on September 4th and against Humboldt State on October 9th.

Here’s something else to think about, if you are partial to Cracker Barrel, the Cougars play at Dixie State in St. George, Utah on September 27th. It’s 363 miles or roughly the equivalent of the distance between Northwest Division rivals Twentynine Palms and Morro Bay. Still, if you go to Utah you get Cracker Barrel…if there are no lightening delays.

Last Add Cougars: Nick Owens, Andrew Elffers, and Chad Jeffries are all vying for the quarterback spot. That should be fun to watch.

Burroughs HC Keith Knoop would like to clear up that the name of the Indians new starting quarterback is Steven Hubbell not Justin Hubbell, as was reported here last week.

Note to Alhambra: I’d like to know something about senior-to-be TE/DE Austin Chavez. First will he be back, second what is his height and weight right now? I’m ready to talk Moors football, so talk to me.

Forgot to drop this in two weeks ago, but Whittier Christian had an event to celebrate its athletes going off to college. Several of the Heralds football players will be playing on Saturday’s next fall. Linebacker Jack Huitt will be going to Fullerton JC and trenchman Parker Subia will be playing at Kenyon College, a D-3 school in central Ohio.
Quarterback Ryan Esslinger and kicker/punter Derek Brush will attend Arizona Christian University. The Firestorm will be playing its inaugural year of NAIA football this fall.

Last Add Whittier Christian: Heralds wide receiver senior-to-be Noah Evans (6-4,215) is being listed on the recruiting site 247Sports.com as a tight end and ranked as the 48th best prospect overall in California. In three varsity seasons Evans has 149 catches, 1,677 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Regards:

In regards to Alvin Gentry: Isn’t he the 21st Century version of Del Harris?

In regards to Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee: I guess he wasn’t hurt walking across the street.

In regards to Johnny Manziel in Vegas: Perfect.

In regards to 605 Game: Friday, June 6th at Cerritos College.

In regards to the Los Angeles Angels: We need more Cron.
