(Moorpark) – In a preview of a possible Mid-Valley Division championship game, Paraclete and Sierra Canyon were deadlocked for the better part of forty-seven minutes and fifty-seconds. The last ten-seconds of the game will be remembered by the Spirits as they finally broke a 7-7 tie when Ethan Clark slashed through the Trailblazer defense for a 17-yard touchdown run.
Paraclete made a living of playing ball-hawking defense during its abbreviated Gold Coast Valley league schedule as they only allowed one touchdown while going 3-0.
With the win, the Spirits not only take the rivalry game; they also will be ranked as one of the top seeds heading into the Mid-Valley Division playoffs next week. Paraclete ended the season 7-3 with their three losses coming at the hands of opponents that were 24-6.
*** The Spirits rushed for 235 yards as a team with KJ Latu (77 yards) and Ethan Clark (78 yards) leading the squad.
*** Melquise Stovall rushed for 39 yards on the night, but his 36 yard touchdown run was powerful as he shed tacklers throughout the hard fought score.
*** David Schmucker finished the night six of ten for 77 yards. But was instrumental on the game-winning drive finding Blake Jordan on a 25-yard pass that eventually set up the game winning score. Jordan’s diving catch deserves praise.
