(Whittier) – Garrett Fulbright ran for three touchdowns to lead Whittier Christian to a 27-17 victory over Baldwin Park Friday night to advance to the CIF SS Mid-Valley Division Semi-Finals.

Fulbright scored all of the Heralds offensive points and rushed for 83-yards on 18-carries.

Fulbright ran the opening kickoff down to the Baldwin Park 28-yardline. The drive stalled out and WC was forced to attempt a field goal that was blocked and downed at the Braves 1-yardline.

With 99-yards to go for a score, BP’s Manny Salcedo drove the offense down to the Herald 17-yard line on a 17-play drive. Any chance to score for the Braves was erased when a holding and false start penalty pushed them back to the Whittier Christian 31-yard line and out of field goal range.

Fulbright’s first score came with 5:15 left in the second quarter when he ran in from 4-yards out and put his team up seven.

On the Braves first play of its ensuing possession running back Jesse Moran fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Heralds Rudy Robles and returned it 38-yards for a touchdown.

Mario Rodriquez replaced Salcedo at quarterback late in the second quarter and led the offense to the WC 10-yardline where Bryan Torres hit a 27-yard field goal to end the first half.

Down 14-3 to start the third quarter the Braves Wardell Cruthchfield Jr. carried the ball four times for 20-yards on a 9 play drive and helped setup Rodriguez who hit Gustavo Lucatero 11-yards for a touchdown.

Lucatero scored another touchdown on a 41-yard reception from Rodriguez after the Heralds score their final two touchdowns.

Whittier Christian will meet Monrovia next week in the Semi Finals.
