(Los Angeles) – Cathedral jumped out to a 13-0 lead before the first quarter was over and held off a late charge by Muir in the first round of the CIF Southeast Division playoffs, 36-22.

Andrew Tovar led the Phantoms offense throwing for 27 of 42 for 374 yards and three touchdowns. Tovar also ran for five yards.

Surprisingly for Cathedral, early on it was the rushing game that sparked the offense as Cameron Haney and Jerry Martin each scored on the ground.

The Mustangs couldn’t figure out the Phantoms defense through out the first half as they settled for three punts in four first half possessions as they headed into the break down 23-7.

The loss by Muir is the earliest in the playoffs since 2009 after nearly upsetting Charter Oak.

*** Haney finished the night rushing for 70 yards on three carries. His 68 yard touchdown in the first quarter helped the Phantoms bounce out to a 13-0 lead early.

***Simi Maola finished the night with 3 sacks to lead all Cathedral players. As a team the defense finished with five sacks.
*** Chase Keogh finished the night going 16 of 36 for 210 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Keogh also rushed for a team-high 83 yards and a score.
