1. The Dodgers bring back catcher A.J. Ellis on a one-year contract.

2. Alabama Birmingham shuts down its football program.

3. Dorsey fires HC Paul Knox. Knox who has been the head coach at Dorsey since 1985, won four City Section championships and coached such players as Keyshawn Johnson, Jonathan Franklin and Rahim Moore.

4. Cleveland Browns’ HC Mike Pettine names Brian Hoyer the starting quarterback for this Sunday’s game against the Colts.

5. Charles Barkley calls Ferguson looters “scumbags” and says he supports the decision by the grand jury not to indict officer Darren Wilson in the Michael Brown shooting.
