Friday December 5

Downey (10-3, SGV #1) at Crescenta Valley (13-0, Pacific #1) at Glendale High School

Crescenta Valley’s winning streak was supposed to end when the Falcons played Muir. Then they were going to get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. Then there was no way they could reach the semi finals. They’re too soft and too inexperienced. Well Crescenta Valley is also 13-0. The Falcons have a bevy of weapons from Brian Gadsby to Connor Van Ginkel to Jordan Lobianco to Jonathan Jun, etc, etc. The defense is solid enough and Paul Schilling has kept the Falcons calm and cool throughout the entire run.

So now here comes Downey who’s not too bad itself. The Vikings haven’t won all of their games but they haven’t lost since September. Downey can play the “Rodney Dangerfield” card as well. Nobody outside of the Viking family thought the Vikes would be in the Southeast Finals. They’ve done it with defense (held Cathedral to 18 points) and offense (107 points in three playoff games.) Downey has a few weapons of its own in Daveon Vigilant and Justin Huff who have combined to rush for more than 3000 yards and Trevor Hill who has thrown for over 1500.

It could come down to who makes the most stops or to simply who has the ball last. Downey will score, maybe even hold a late lead. But this year nobody can keep up with CV. Falcons hoist trophy.
