Peterson getting some tips from “The Brick”

With the end of the football season and the beginning of the Christmas Holidays comes the annual football coaching changes…and rumors of coaching changes. My question is when the dust settles where does Mike Maggiore end up?

It probably won’t be Michigan. “That’s a lot of money. Harbaugh should take it. But I’ll let you know if that happens,” Maggiore said regarding the Wolverines job.

With Michael O’Shields stepping down at Walnut, the speculation is that former Walnut star and current Baldwin Park HC Daniel Al-Gattas would a logical candidate.

“It’s a fair question but no,” Al-Gattas said. “I’m staying put.”

O’ Shields had a nine year run with the Mustangs. These days that’s an eternity. Walnut had two playoff appearances during his tenure.

“He’s a great guy. One of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet,” Maggiore said. “I think he just got burned out.”

O’ Shields also just got married recently and might want to spend more time at home. Understandable. Despite Walnut’s recent struggles, it’s not a bad gig. The facilities are top notch and the the administration has always been supportive of the football program. Somebody out there should be able to provide the Mustangs with a shot in the arm.

I’m sure Brandon Rohrer was expecting more than a two year stay at Etiwanda when he left La Puente. Of course high profile programs come with higher expectations and sometimes the grass isn’t always greener. Rohrer could end up at Alta Loma which also has a head coaching vacancy.

Did you know that Claremont head coach Mike Collins spent 20 years (not consecutive)  as the head coach of the Wolfpack during a 30-year coaching career. Collins retired last week. A new coach is expected to be named next week. Stay tuned.

No, Bill Zernickow has not been named the head coach at Glendora yet. Yes he does want to coach again.

Still nothing out of Muir as to who the head coach might be. Actually still nothing out of Muir as to why John Hardy was let go.

Great move in moving the East-West All-Star Game to January instead of the usual date in late May or early June. By then passing leagues have already started and the focus is on the upcoming season. The previous year is already a distant memory. Plus most of the players will still be in football shape. The game will be played January 30 at West Covina High.

“There should be a lot of interest of colleges to see the game and get one more evaluation. It’s right before signing day,” said Maggiore, game organizer and unless Michigan comes calling, still the head coach of the Bulldogs.

That’s my principle.
