Northwest Coach of The Year 2014: Nipomo’s Russ Edwards

The defense at Nipomo was great, but the pick of Jay Wells we have isn't. We'll take a new one, in the meantime congrats.

We can use a decent shot of Russ Edwards as well.

Russ Edwards served eight years as the Nipomo Titans head football coach. Guided it from infancy to a title this past December. The 2014 campaign was expected to be a good one for the Titans, but it turned out to be great.

There was the 10-4 record overall. The four losses were to Lompoc by one, Atascadero by 14, Arroyo Grande by seven, and Templeton by one. That’s a combined 23 points. Lompoc finished the season 11-1, while Atascadero and Arroyo Grande advanced to the semis in their division and both went 10-3. Northern League rival Templeton went 10-3 as well and reached the Northwest semis.

The Titans offense was explosive and the defense got better each week. While it didn’t hurt having a triggerman like Matt Albright at quarterback, Edwards guided his team to four straight post season wins after the difficult loss in the rain to Templeton.

Edwards was a unanimous choice in the Mid Valley Sports office as the Northwest Coach of the Year.
