(El Monte) – Rosemead went on a 10-0 run late in the third quarter and into the fourth and went on to beat Arroyo 48-43 Friday night at Vern Nelson Fieldhouse.

The Panthers trailed by two after one and were still down 26-24 at the half. Rosemead trailed 32-28 late in the third before scoring the last eight points in the third and the first basket in the fourth to go up 38-32. They never trailed the rest of the way.

Ethan Chan was the man for the Panthers leading the way with 25 points. Chan hit five three pointers overall including three consecutive in the second quarter. He had 11 of Rosemead’s 15 in the quarter. Ivan Ip added 16 including eight in the decisive fourth.

Roger Chavez nailed two from beyond the arc to get Arroyo going early. He had nine in the first quarter to give the Knights an 11-9 advantage after one. The teams battled each other even in the second quarter at 15 as Arroyo knocked down three pointers to cling to a 26-24 lead at the half.

Arroyo went cold in the third shooting just two for 10 from the field and managing only four points in the quarter. The Panthers took advantage, pushed ahead and never looked back.

While Chan and Ip combined for 41 of Rosemead’s 48 points, Chavez was the only Arroyo player on double figures with 18. Justin Alfonso had nine and Freddy Qujada chipped in eight. Rosemead improved to 3-1 in the Mission Valley League while Arroyo dropped to 2-2.
