Lancers Down Spartans in Eight

La Salle exploded for four runs in the top of the eighth inning to take 3rd place in the Duarte Softball Tournament by defeating La Canada, 6-4.

In the worst way to end a thrilling game by starting the tie-breaking eighth inning with a runner on second, the Lancers were able to put together hits by Kathryn Haderlein, Allie Forillo, and Sterling Shuster blow open a 2-2 tie.

With Allen on second, Haderlein blooped a single down the first base side. The throw was cut off by Deven Zerebko who errantly threw over the head of Anna Applebaum to give La Salle the go-ahead run when Allen scored from third.

Forillo then singled in Haderlein to give the Lancers insurance that they woLA

For eight innings, Forillo was masterful stymieing Spartan hitters enroute to her second win of the season. She had eight strike outs and helped herself at the plate by blasting a homer run in left-center field to tie the score at two.

La Canada attempted a comeback in the bottom of the tiebreaker inning as Alex Antonoplis and Catherine Horner scored, but Megan Siepler struck out swinging to end the game.

La Salle and La Canada were victims of bad tournament rule that didn’t allow both Pool winners a chance to advance to the Duarte Finals based on run differential and a coin toss.
