1. Major League Baseball now has procedures in place to safeguard game balls.

2. San Dimas beats Wilson 3-2 to finish the regular season a perfect 28-0.

3. The New Orleans Pelicans fire head coach Monty Williams.

4. Dee Gordon of the Miami Marlins had four hits and scored the winning run to lead the Miami Marlins to a 5-4 win over the Dodgers Wednesday. Gordon led the National League in hitting with an average of .412 coming into the game.

5. Former Bonita baseball/football star and current West Virginia outfielder KC Huth.

6. Crescenta Valley non league schedule: at Verdugo Hills, Golden Valley,  at La Canada. Pacific League opener at home vs. Burbank September 25.

7. Tony Ayala Jr., a rising star in boxing before a 1983 rape conviction that led to the first of two long prison terms, passed away Tuesday at the age of 52.

10. On this date in 1874, Harvard defeated McGill University of Montreal, 3-0 at Cambridge Massachusetts. It was an 11-man-per-side game that resembled soccer, but permitted running with the ball when pursued. It was arguably the first rudimentary football game ever played.
