The Peterson Principle: 6/8/2015

The East -West Hall of Fame Game got it right when they moved the game to January this year. The 605 game needs to do the same.

If you would have seen the game Friday night at Cerritos College you would agree. Penalties, missed tackles, missed blocks, errant passes and dropped balls were the order of the night. Players weren’t on the same page and the mistakes outnumbered the points.

The argument for the game in June is that it doesn’t interfere with other sports. Well in June it interferes with plenty of other things -namely graduations.

“We had four graduations during the week of practice,” said East Head Coach Anthony White.

Half of the players didn’t even know each other’s names. Also if the game is in January the players are still in football shape. A majority of the kids that played hadn’t been on the field for six months. The 605 game in June is tradition, but sometimes traditions are made to be broken.

The East ultimately won 10-7 on a field goal late in the fourth quarter. That kid from Mayfair, Cannon Plooster, has a boot. Anybody know where he is playing next season?

The West was put at a disadvantage when their kicker, Enrique Lozano, went down with an ACL injury on Thursday. And speaking of injuires, if you plan on playing college ball in the Fall, especially at the D-1 level, should you really be playing in this game? Just throwing it out there.

Wardell Crutchfield has resurfaced. He is now the an assistant coach at Pomona where he will be working with the defensive backs. He was a little overdressed though at the One Blood Tournament at Mt. View on Saturday. Crutchfield was dressed in white slacks and a white vest over a black dress shirt. Attending a wedding after the tournament perhaps or is this just the way Crutch likes to roll at passing leagues?

Mt. View head coach Victor Ambuso earned a lot of Mid Valley Karma Saturday. He and the Viking family served us up the best chicken tacos in the valley.

Everybody is taking their usual shots at Keppel. But the Aztecs advanced in the consolation bracket where they lost to Long Beach Jordan. HC Aaron Sepuveda has Keppel throwing every chance he gets. How will it translate? That’s the question.

Pomona’s Darreon Lockett who was everbody’s MVP last year, was throwing Saturday for the Red Devils. But the word is that he might not be playing quarterback this year. This was the first time he has thrown this year and we’re hearing he might be playing slot receiver or running back. Probabaly won’t matter though. The dude can score from anywhere.

That’s my principle.
