Fanview Lite: December 23, 2009 Poinsettia Bowl Edition

Monrovia alum Patrick Greene, long snapper for Utah, leaves the field in San Diego a winner.

“We’re going out there for glory. And, when we get out there, we’re gonna yank ‘em, and tear ‘em, and rip ‘em. And, we’re gonna take ‘em, and roll ‘em around, and rip ‘em up into pieces! And, then we’re going to slaughter ‘em. And, after the slaughter is over, we’re gonna come back here and ring that victory bell. (The crowd cheers)… Like we always wanted to.”     — Coach Calhoun

Good Evening!

T-Minus-271 Days Until the “Mid Valley Classic”

We are currently working on all everything teams for 2009 now…they will be followed by all decade stuff…but I would like to know who’s working on the all decade local sportswriter team

Speaking of Alhambra…With Gil Ruedaflores stepping down as coach of the Moors…Are you aware current Utah HC Kyle Whittingham’s father, Fred, was head coach of the Moors in 1972.

I thought I went after Andy Villathedevil, but nothing like NBCSports.com football writer John Tamanaha did last night…

Can somebody throw me a bone and tell me, again, the names of the new teams in the Southeast Division…I’ve got Diamond Bar, but currently I am drawing a blank on the others…

He’s got skills…Do you remember Monrovia Wildcat Patrick Greene? Played some pretty good baseball for M-Town, some solid football, currently he is the starting long snapper for the Utah Utes in the Poinsettia Bowl here in San Diego.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Greene after Utah’s 37-27 victory. “It’s my first bowl game. Just a different environment, everything, all the festivities were great.”

The Lakers were lucky, Kobe Bryant could easily be watching the rest of this season on a big screen at home by the way he came down on his knee last night.

He’s got skills part two…I don’t remember but some might Brian Holley the starting fullback for Cal…He prepped at Diamond Ranch.

He’s got skills part three…Haven’t seen him yet but there’s a toe head in the Cal band who used to play football at Temple City. If the Golden Bear marchers decide to storm the field, I’m going to assume Cary Smith will lead them.

I really hate the cannon going off after every score here at the Murph…Oh sorry, Qualcomm Park…

Add One More: Jeff Rudy is Utah’s Director of Football Operations…Nice…But Bonita fans might remember him as being the offensive line coach at Bonita from 1998 to 2000. The Bearcats won CIF in 1999 under then HC Larry Hatley.

Last Add Hatley: Most in the Mid Valley area will remember Hatley as the Rosemead HC in 2002-2003… Hatley joked to me once his claim to fame wasn’t necessarily the Bonita title… “I spent a year playing center at UCLA, with Troy Aikman putting his hands under my butt in practice.”

Stay thirsty my friends…
