La Salle/Temple City Holiday Classic

Things are Looking up for Tommy Jordan and St. Francis

Knights are Golden against Alhambra

(Temple City) – St. Francis rained a dozen three balls down on Alhambra Saturday in a 78-56 rout of the Moors in the first round of the Temple City-La Salle Holiday Classic.

The Golden Knights jumped out to a 23-11 lead after one and then sprinted out on a 14-0 run to open the second quarter to essentially put the game away. A 12 point lead became 26 faster than you can say Tommy Jordan. Speaking of Jordan, the kid with the famous last name, buried four three pointers and led the way with 18 points including seven in the 14 point run.

St. Franks outscored Alhambra 27-9 in the second quarter to open up a 50-20 halftime bulge. Emerson Castaneda had eight points in the quarter including a pair of threes and finished with 16 overall.

In the first quarter Jordan and Castaneda each drained two three pointers to get the Golden Knights off and running. The Moors actually got off to a 4-0 lead on a pair of buckets by James Ledsma before St. Francis caught fire.

The second half was a chance for both coaches to empty their benches. St. Francis outscored the Moors 20-16 in the third before Alhambra finally got on track in the final period with a 20-8 spurt.

St. Francis had 12 players in the scoring column overall. Spencer Nieves was also in double figures with 11 and Spencer Zarifan added 7.

Carlos Martinez was a bright spot for the Moors. The senior guard led all scorers with 23 points including four three pointers. Martinez had 15 of his 23 in the second half. Ledsma was the only other Moor in double figures with 13 points and Tony Dang tossed in 8.

Next up for St. Francis is a match up with Temple City on Monday night. Alhambra will square off against Marshall in the other bracket.
