(Pasadena) – La Salle rallied from a six point deficit to go ahead 56-54 on a Matt Nolan 3 pointer to cap an 8-0 run with 22.6 seconds to play. The Lancers then held on to beat Paraclete 56-55 Saturday in the first round of the Temple City/La Salle Tournament.
Nolan’s bomb and a driving bucket by power forward and leading scorer Josh Anderson (19), highlighted the rally late in the fourth quarter.
Paraclete’s Wesley McCurtis, 14 points, made only the front end of a free throw set, then rebounded the miss and called timeout, stopping time at 8.2. A three point attempt went wide and was tipped around before La Salle’s Anderson grabbed the ball underneath and immediately called for another TO at the 1.1 mark.
Kishon Sanders’ inbound pass was batted by Keenan Washington, (11 points), into the grasp of McCurtis who heaved it from the far right corner. But it was an air ball sailing over the left rim as the clock expired, allowing the Lancers to escape.
Paraclete missed 13 of 23 from the charity stripe.
