The Peterson Principle 2/23/10

By Tim Peterson I don’t hate the Winter Olympics. In fact sometimes I think they get a bad rap. The downhill skiing is cool and the speed skating featuring American Anton Apollo Ohno keeps me tuned in. The Ohno story is actually pretty remarkable. Oilers Downed by Upland

(Montebello)- Andrew Torres led all scorers with 30 points and Michael Carabes tossed in 20 but it wasn’t enough as Montebello fell to Upland 70-65 Friday night in the second round of the CIF Division 1AA playoffs.

High School Boys Basketball Top 20

If you haven’t seen Montebello yet, you still have time. The Oilers are for real. If it’s not Antonio Worthy doing damage in the paint, it’s Andrew Torres on the wing. Michael Carabes and Daniel Flores can light it up as well. They are poised for a nice playoff run.

Oiler Arsenal too much for Keppel

(Montebello) – There are just too many weapons. Keppel was good. Montebello was better. Keppel made a push but Montebello pushed harder. Keppel rallied but Montebello responded. And in the end Montebello was too much for the Aztecs in a 76-61 win Friday night.

Oilers Too Slick for Aztecs

By Corey Kwok (Keppel HS) – Daniel Flores’ 14 footer with 8 seconds left in overtime lifted CIF Division 1AA’s ninth ranked Montebello to a 60-59 win over Keppel Tuesday night. Montebello improved to 20-1 overall and 3-0 in Almont League play while Keppel dropped to 15-4 and 2-1.

Mid Valley High School Basketball Boys Top 20

With most of the area teams officially starting league play next week, it’s time to bust out the Top 20. Montebello has stunned everybody winning 17 of its first 18. South Hills looks like the class of the San Antonio and La Canada is playing like…well…La Canada. What’s gotten into Baldwin Park?

La Salle/Temple City Tournament Wrap Up

By Corey Kwok At La Salle: Championship – Montebello 62, St Francis 52  Montebello mercilessly pounded on a cold St Francis offense in the first half and appeared on its way to a titanic rout with a whopping 33 to 6 lead at halftime. But it wasn’t that easy as the Oilers, (15-1), ranked 13th […]
