Red Devils Won’t be Denied

(Pomona)- If this game sets the tone for playoff action this playoff season we are in store for a great road to the championship as the Pomona pulled out a dramatic 40-33 win over Brentwood Friday night in the first round of the Mid-Valley Division playoffs.  

The Eagles seemed poised to head back to Los Angeles with a win and ticket to the second round after owning the third quarter. Leading 20-19 at the half, Brentwood scored with 1:40 left in the third increasing its lead to 26-19. On the last play of the the third the Eagles Isaiah Harrison exploded up the middle for a 56 -yard touchdown to make it 33-19. At this point Pomona’s fans became eerily silent while the players stood dejected and looked as if the season was slipping away.

With 8:12 left in the fourth Pomona had a fourth and goal at the Eagles 25. On the play Pomona’s Darreon Lockett bought time, scrambled in the pocket and connected with Chris Jackson to cut Brentwood’s lead to 33-26. This was the spark that ignited Pomona’s comeback. The Red Devils scored twice more, and provided the dagger with 30 seconds left when Lockett found the end zone on a 5-yard keeper for the win.

*** Pomona’s Darreon Lockett was 12/26 for 133 yards ,1 passing TD, and ran the ball 20 times for 130 yards, 3 rushing TD’s

*** The Red Devil’s Brian Lamb carried the ball 10 times for 97 yards, 2 TD.
*** Brentwood’s Holden Thomas was 20/43 for 301 yards 3 passing TD.
*** Thomas’ number one target for the night Harry Schwartz, who hauled in 8 catches for 72 yards, 3 TD.
*** Isaiah Harrison carried the ball 9 times for 69 yards, 1 TD.
*** Pomona will play Northview in the second round of the Mid-Valley Division Playoffs.
