(West Covina) — With 15 seconds left in regulation, Viewpoint kicker Seth Frank booted a 42-yard field goal to give the Patriots a 37-35 victory over Covina in the second round of the CIF SS playoffs Friday night at West Covina High School.

After giving up a late touchdown to the Colts, Viewpoint started the final drive at its 33-yard line with 51 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Pats quarterback Zach Chulak started the series by scrambling for 23-yards to put his offense into Colt territory. He then connected with Dante Nepa twice in the series- to set up Frank for the game winner.

Early in the second half, Viewpoint was down 23-14 after Andrew Apodaca rushed for an 8-yard score. Less than two minutes later Chulak connected with Nepa for a 57-yard score to draw within two midway through the third.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Chulak connected with Michael Jones for the 43-yard score but the two point conversion failed. Viewpoint had a 28-23 lead in the final frame.

The Colts returned the favor on their next possession when Ailaoa Tauvao rushed for a 1-yard score to put his team back on top with 8:07 left to play. The Colts two point conversion attempt also failed but they regain the lead, 29-28.

Then seven plays later Chulak counter punched with a 30-yard scoring pass to Nepa to put the Patriots back on top, 34-29.

Covina did answer back when Apodaca forced his way for the 12-yard score with 51 seconds left to play in regulation.
