(Bell Gardens) – Margarito Beltran, who was dismissed as the La Serna head coach the week before the season started, landed as the head coach at Bell Gardens Monday.

“I’m very excited to be going to BG. I’m looking forward to it,” Beltran said. “BG has gone above and beyond for me and I’m happy for the opportunity.”

Beltran won a Southeast title as the HC at La Serna in 2013 and appeared in three consecutive CIF championship games from 2011 through 2013.

Beltran plans to run the same offense that he ran at La Serna and will work with some of the same assistants.

“They’re not getting the copy, they’re getting the original,” Beltran said of the program. “It’s going to be a lot of work but if there’s one thing about me and my assistant coaches, we’re not afraid of hard work.”

Beltran will also be teaching at Bell Gardens.

“The plan is for me to be on campus some time in February,” Beltran added.

Bell Gardens finished 6-4 overall in 2015 (3-2 in the Almont League) and missed the playoffs.

Beltran takes over for Geoff Ackerman who stepped down when the season ended.

Looks like he did lots of good things at La Serna, but BG doesn’t work…I think he would have been a good hire at Temple City that needs more help or Mark Keppel…bring the SEM staff to assist at temple City too…

Yeah…Jesse Martinez, Coach Beltran does it for the $4,000 stipend he receives!! HAHAHAHAHA!! You are a joke! Unless you coach at a Division 1 PRIVATE school high school coaches don’t coach for the money! Plus, if he “coached for the money” I doubt he would have taken the Bell Gardens job when he was offered the South Hills job! Im pretty sure the Booster Club could’ve paid him at South Hills more then the $4,000 stipend he is receiving from the Montebello Unified School District! HAHAHA! That comment Jesse was awesome!

Don=Yes you are right about temporary staff; and I have seen that Montebello USD’s salary schedule is much better than ER’s

FBfan has further revealed that because the earth’s rotation is “dragging its feet”, the sun might not rise tomorrow. The event which precipitated this disaster was the molecular waves created by kicking Medrano to the curb.

With Bonita kicking him to the curb and ER dragging their feet, Medrano could end up at Corona Roosevelt. This could very well happen!

footballobserver, actually no they don’t have to announce job openings. Up to the administration at school and dependent on position and job title. You mention pay scale, look up El Rancho Unified and Montebello Unified and you will see that Montebello pays much more! Temporary Contracts are not union jobs, people get moved and released all the time because of temporary contracts! Remove two or three teachers who are on temporary contracts and bring in two or three to replace and put them on tenure tract because they are fully credentialed happen all the time in every district! I speak from experience, I have seen this in multiple districts over the years especially to supply ONCAMPUS coaching! Montebello Unified is structured better and more stable when compared to El Rancho Unified.

When a job is open in a district they are announced. Must announce

you mean that the district paid him more than other teachers in the district?

No way they could do that and ignore the entire districts teachers; is there not a salary schedule common to all certified educators? How did they open teaching jobs? Please explain for us. No teaching jobs announced on CIF site. I think illegal. Will Montebello teachers write grievance for it ;?

El Rancho, Bell Gardens, and South Hills all wanted Beltran! All three were Beltran’s first choice, the one that could match WUHSD salary and hire some of his coaches (teaching positions) was going to win! All three schools can and will win but BG made the best offer. Good luck to all three schools, all three have very successful head coaches.

This first-or-second choice reminds me that in life, you’ve ALWAYS got to look out for #1…..but don’t step in #2.

No he wasn’t, Beltran thought he was #1 and moved forward to BG when he was told ER was waiting to hear from Medrano. If he was #1 choice and ER really wanted him they would have done it, but the Medrano hire has been brewing since last June.

This coming season will have Beltran working hard to retool Bell Gardens and Medrano working hard to do the same at El Rancho. With these two coaching machines in place, it is mandatory to put the black-and-blue game back into the schedule. This game would be even more dramatic than ever.

A new record may be set on this thread, since the resignation of Medrano has poured more fuel on this fire. I can’t say exactly how to maximize the participation, but I can guess that stories related to basketball and APU would act as flame retardants on this conflagration.
