You say Edgar Martinez, I say HAL MCRAE!

Good Evening!

T-Minus-258 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Actually, I found the Boise St.-TCU game Monday night to be a bit of a yawner.

Note to Zeke Prado: No, we did not cut and paste our all star selections for area football.

The sudden passing of Angels announcer Rory Marcus, 54, is terrible news… I wasn’t a huge fan, but his voice distinct and clear…Sad, makes me feel a little more mortal today…

I roll with Brit…

Anyone want the job at Texas Tech? Actually, I don’t think Matt Koffler has been contacted yet for the position.

So Kevin O’Neil, brought in to salvage the USC mens basketball program…does more than that. With departures and NCAA trouble hanging overhead, O’Neil pushes the Trojans to eight consecutive wins, a 10-4 record, and a 2-0 start in the weak Pac 10.

How does the university thank him and the players who stayed in school and have played their hearts out early this season?

They self-impose sanctions on themselves, including a ban on post-season this play come spring.

O.J. Mayo cheats, Tim Floyd cheats, or you can say O.J. May screwed up, Tim Floyd screwed up…but you make Dwight Lewis pay for it.

To Mr. Blue State: If you are going to preach former Seattle Mariner designated hitter Edgar Martinez to me…Fine! You can even stick him in the Hall of Fame first, but I want Hal McRae the Kansas City Royal DH from back in the day (the first real DH) deserves  a long, long look.

To some of the local coaches and friends of programs giving our All Mid Valley selections such a going over…remember we don’t trade players out. We don’t say give me Little Johnny at quarterback, and I’ll give you Big Sammy at fullback.

We make arguments with each other, insult each other, call those in the know for clarification…and lately…when I find out I’m wrong on what position Mike Chavez plays for Arroyo (or Cesar Chavez played for Rosmead in 2008)…I give in to the majority.

Truthfully the last time I really manhandled the All Mid Valley selections was in 2004, since then with our expanded coverage I have had to give our other staffers a real voice.

Best thing we heard regarding our process (which wonderfully permits no second, third, or honorable mention teams) came from an all CIF selection a year ago who said: “I took being named All Mid Valley more as an accomplishment than CIF, because you guys know what you are doing.”

Bingo! (…Your check is in the mail.)

What is up with the 15-1 Montebello Oilers basketball team? These guys are smoking…

Stay thirsty my friends…
