(Charter Oak HS) – Jaden Radcliffe accounted for all his 20 points on just seven shots, six of them threes, to lead Charter Oak to a 67-46 win over Rowland Monday night.
Radcliffe got hot in the second quarter and carried it over into the third when he rained four consecutive three pointers over a span of 2:12 to lead a CO charge that broke the game open.
Backed by perimeter baskets by freshman Joseph Dionisio and production underneath from Steven David and Sharif Watson, Rowland led 25-20 with 3:35 to go before halftime. The Raiders’ offense then fell off into an ice age, sputtering to manage just three free throws on six attempts as Charter Oak asserted command with a 17-3 run over the initial six minutes of the third.
Derrick Mar hit a basket and a three to end Rowland’s dry spell from the field, but an Anthony Franco put back at the period’s buzzer gave CO a 51-37 lead heading into the final frame.
Bombs by Kenny Saldana, Kyle Heidenrich, and a Josiah Thropay layup put it out of reach as the Chargers cleared their bench with 2:54 left to play and a 60-40 margin.
For CO, Evan Barr (9 points, 3 assists) led the board crashing with 9 caroms. Louie Jacobo led the heisting party with three steals, while five other Charger players contributed two apiece.
Rowland did not have a player in double figures. Dionisio, Mar, and David all had 9 points. Robin Yi added seven points and three thefts.
