Matadors win Ninth Straight

(San Gabriel) – San Gabriel’s 17-2 run stretching from late in the third to early in the fourth propelled the Matadors to a 56-40 win over Mountain View Thursday night in non league action.

  The Mats improved to 11-5 while winning their ninth straight game while the Vikings dropped to 5-7.

  Matador rainmaker Eric Martinez showered five treys from downtown, including a fade away bomb he converted into a four point play three minutes into the second quarter. Martinez finished led all scorers with 21 points. He also added 3 steals and 3 assists.

  The Vikes struggled early, missing 4 of their first 5 free throws and were shut out from the field until 3:26 left in the first quarter when Juan Benitez scored on a baseline drive.

  View rallied to within seven in the third on an 8-2 run on buckets by Joe Angelo and Anthony Veloz. SG then began its 17-2 surge by closing out the period on an Alvaro Loya bucket and a Martinez three. Loya contributed a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Matadors. Isaac Valdez recorded two assists and a block.
