- Jake Arrieta goes seven innings for the Chicago Cubs in 9-0 win over Angels.
- Los Angeles Kings drop second game in a row and fall into second place in Pacific Division. Anaheim leads the division by one point.
- Dancing Candy, Exaggerator and California-bred Smokey Image all confirmed to be entered in Santa Anita Derby on Saturday. The Santa Anita race meet ends Sunday.
- Clayton Kershaw hurls seven innings of shutout ball to help lead the Dodgers to a 15-0 win over the Padres.
- Clippers and Lakers meet tonight and tomorrow. The Clippers have defeated the Lakers five straight times dating back to last season.
- On this day, Kareem Abdul-Jabber became the highest-scoring player in NBA history with 31,421. Abdul-Jabber finished his career with 38,387 points.
- NCAA Women’s Basketball Final takes place tonight with UCONN facing Syracuse.
