Would you take Rowland's Michael Ball in "The Mid Valley Draft"?

Good Morning!

T-Minus-241 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Oh sure, I see MaxPreps has a countdown timer going now…

Funny since the wet weather began, I have not seen the Revenue Bandits (TC motorcycle cops) at all…Like mailmen, they must not work in the rain…

The Three Matts

I asked Matt Koffler if he ever heard back on the USC job before it got filled: “No phone call back from Mike Garrett but I am waiting on Lane Kiffin to call if he needs some help! I think he is a good hire, he knows SC football and the hiring of his dad and Coach O is great. Alumni and former Trojan players that I have talked to are fired up!”

On the subject of fired up I asked Koffler about tailback Matt Fregoso: “Matt will be a stud this year. He is such a good football player and kid.”

The competitive Matt Macias is expected to return as the starting quarterback.

Looking forward to seeing Rosemead at Arroyo tonight.

Another rivalry game taking place will have the Flatlanders (5-14) taking on the Hill People (14-5). I mean Burroughs will be going to Burbank tonight. The Indians have won three in a row against the Bulldogs.

Who is going to replace Isaac Valdez at San Gabriel? Word is it’s a three man race between (grade standing reflects fall status) juniors Eddie Escandon, Andy Guerrero, and sophomore Eric Alvarez.

If you can remember off the top of your head all of the SG quarterbacks since 2003 it may mean you have a great memory, or that the Matadors have had a great run of riflemen in Frankie Bernard, Steven Gonzalez, Saile Ramirez (whatever happened to him?), and Ike.

Don’t count out the sophomore Alvarez, especially with much of the defense returning intact for SG in 2010. A solid “D”, might allow Keith Jones to roll the dice with a young guy on offense. They’ve rolled sevens when they’ve done it before.

For all the local players laughing off or dismissing playing small college football keep focused on Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin who is in line for a big contract. Austin played his college ball at Monmouth.

I’m sure there was a point I missed, but I’m not buying the Lakers wearing home gold on the road like they did last night in Cleveland.

Ferguson Jenkins, a Hall of Fame right hander in the late 60’s and through most of the 70’s with the Cubs and Rangers, says that Mark McGwire owes an apology to all of the pitchers he hit home runs off of while he was juiced.

Okay, but did Jenkins apologize to the batters he pitched to when doing blow? (I know, I know, the charges were dropped…but fishy nonetheless) Actually, I’m more of a Jenkins guy than McGwire.

To me the most embarrassing aspect of the McGwire saga, and I really don’t dwell on McGwire too often, is all the overt respect he paid to the family of Roger Maris during the summer of 1998. Oops.

Last Add Burroughs: With an eye to the future, Flatlander Joe Leone dropped in 22 against Pasadena on Wednesday in a freshman contest. Leone was ice at the line and solid in the paint.

Obligatory Blue State question of the day; I’m at a loss as to why Rick Ankiel’s numbers took such a drop from 2008 to 2009. Can you help me?

Enough already lets get to the Mid Valley Draft.

Next week we’ll be producing our Draft Board…Top players in each position to help you draft for your NFL team. We are adding everyday, come join the exercise, it’ll be a lot of fun.

How do you do it? Pick a team (just by dropping a team name into the comment box) and you’ll draft players from either the Southeast or Mid-Valley Division to meat your NFL team’s needs.

Think in terms of someone picking for the Titans drafting Christian Morgan out of San Dimas because they need someone who can get to the quarterback.  How about Rowland’s Michael Ball, underclassman, do you take him in the second round or in the first?

So far we have;

Joe Torosian: St. Louis Rams

Martin “Knight” Lopez: Green Bay Packers

Blue State: Cleveland Browns

Arroyo Knight: New Orleans Saints

Bonita Alum: San Diego Chargers

Andy Villanueva: Cincinnati Bengals

Josh O: Tennessee Titans

Tim Peterson: Washington Redskins

Corn Dawg: Atlanta Falcons

Duane Barker: Detroit Lions

Juan Carlos: San Francisco 49ers

MannsJeff: Arizona Cardinals

Stay thirsty my friends…
