Lady Spartans Stay Unbeaten In League

(La Canada, Ca) – An impressive defensive effort by La Canada enabled them to go on a 10-1 run to start the game and easily defeat Temple City 53-16.

Lady Spartan forward Courtney McCutchan scored a game-high 23 points, with 15 points coming in the first half.

The Rams were held under 10 points in each quarter as bad shot selection and multiple turnovers in the first half led to their defeat.

Rams guard Kathleen Wong led the team with nine points with five coming in the third quarter.  The five points in the period were all of Temple City’s points.

La Canada was able to use a 10-2 run at the end of the first half to head into the break with a 22-point lead.

The biggest concern for the Lady Spartans was a possible injury to Shannon Denney after she appeared to have landed on a Temple City defender.

The second half saw the La Canada’s reserves come in and continue to dominate defensively as they held the Rams to nine points.

The Lady Spartans would finish on an 11-4 run to end the game, which was punctuated by Kelly Stewart’s fifteen-foot jumper to close out the scoring.

With the victory, La Canada remains unbeaten in the Rio Hondo League.  Temple City is still searching for their first win in league play.
