(Duarte) The Whittier Christian Heralds traveled north to Duarte to take on the Falcons Friday night and before the seat were warm jumped out to a 14-0 lead en route to a 55-20 win.

As the cool evening breezes started to blow Justin Osborne and the Heralds offense heated up taking the opening drive 73 yards on eight plays with Osborne getting the score on a 23 yard run.

Osborne got his second score of the evening a few minutes later on a three yard run. The score was set up on a 74 yard screen pass from Quinn Commans to who else, Osborne.

It was a huge night for Osborne who accounted for 315 total yards, 190 on the ground and 125 receiving with two scores.

Whittier Christian scored twice more on a three yard run by Joshua Hernandez and 25 yard pass from Commans to Cade McGee before Duarte managed to get on the board.

The Falcon touchdown came with 4:45 left in the first half on a 32 yard run by Devon Hemsley. The score was set up by Rodney Collier who brought a Herald kickoff down to the Whittier Christian 49.

The Heralds increase their lead back to 28 points when Commans hit Jacob Albertini over the middle from eight yards out.

Whittier Christian extended their lead to 42-7 with just a few ticks left in the second period. Osborne took a pitch from Commans and headed right on an apparent sweep. Instead of continuing with the run he pulled up and launched a pass downfield in the direction of McGee. McGee hauled in the pass and raced the rest of the 66 yards to paydirt.

Duarte showed signs of life taking the opening drive of the second half 66 yards on nine plays with Justin Hillier grabbing a Hemsley pass out of the night sky for a 16 yard score.

The Heralds answered the score with one of their own marching 80 yards on eight plays with Commans calling his own number on an nine yard run.

The teams traded fourth quarter scores to reach the final of 55-20.

The Duarte score came with the Falcons pinned deep in their own territory. On fourth down at his own one, Hillier lined up to punt and was forced to scramble due to the Herald pressure. Hillier escaped the pressure and went 99 yards for the touchdown.

The bubbas up front for Whittier Christian were Jacob Minares, Nate Swift, Ben Reyes, Jared Ramirez and Clay Hamar.

The big dudes protecting Hemsley were Krikour Koustanian, Abraham Sosa, Daniel Perez and Alvaro Conchas.

Up next for Whittier Christian is a trip to San Juan Capistrano to take on St. Margarets. For Duarte it’s another Olympic League opponent as they travel west to take on Maranatha.
