(Rosemead)- In a crucial Mission Valley League battle South El Monte came to Marinelli Stadium and took a 20-15 decision to over Rosemead on Friday night.

The victory improved the Eagles to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the MVL. The Panthers fell to 2-6, and 2-2 in league.

Rosemead led 3-0 and then 9-7 in the break but the South El Monte offensive line began to wear the defense down in the second half. In the third quarter Eagles took a 13-9 lead and then Sal Tovar broke free for a 21-yard scoring run to make it 20-9.

The Panthers rallied on a halfback option pass from 40-yards out to make it 20-15. Then with 38 seconds remaining they drove inside the South 25. But quarterback Isaia Ah-hing’s final heave to the end zone on fourth down with 18 seconds remaining fell incomplete.
