Gradillas, Parham lead Mead to Victory

By Corey Kwok

(Rosemead) — Rosemead’s Mike Gradillas scored 7 points and dished out 9 assists and Greg Parham led all scorers with 15 to lead Rosemead to a 65-39 rout of Arroyo Wednesday night in MVL action.

Parham also had 3 steals and 4 assists in the second half where the host Panthers turned a tight 30-24 halftime game into a convincing 26 point rout. The win launched the Mead into sole possession of first place at 7-2 and the Panthers clinched at least a share of the Mission Valley League title with one game remaining.

Gradillas has recorded eight or more assists in four of his last six games.

Brian Villa (10 points, 9 rebounds) and Danny Villalobos (10 points, 7 rebounds) did most of the dirty work on both ends of the floor combining for 16 caroms and 20 points. Villa also registered a block in the first before taking a huge charge in the third. High octane guard Andrew Diaz led all scorers with 18 points going 7 for 12 from the field with three three pointers.

Arroyo stayed within striking distance during the first half as Trenton Stewart punctured the hoop with five consecutive shots, the last four for three point bombs. He accounted for 11 of the Knights’ 13 first quarter points in the process. He was held scoreless after the first but still racked up 9 rebounds, 2 thefts, and a rejection.

Mark Roche went to work in the paint in the first half and finished with 12 points, 5 caroms, and 2 blocks. The other Knight big man, Efrain Carrillo, took down 11 rebounds but offensively was held to just 3 points.
